Project Title: Recognizing Success Stories
Software Used: Varies depending on student creativity – Vellum or another drafting program, Photoshop,
Word, etc.
Subject and Grade Level: I taught this lesson in my Reading for Life class which focuses on practical reading. We start the course by studying the book “Teens Preparing for the Real World” by Chad Foster. The book focuses on alternative ways to be successful, but admits that the traditional method of going to college offers the best chance at success. This particular assignment may be taught in any class that focuses on individual talents.
Standards: 12.1.1, 12.2.5, 12.3.1
Example: Success Ribbon
Suggestions: I stress that there are many types of success. We brainstorm some examples of successful people before passing out the assignment. I also emphasize the creativity factor for designing the award to fit the reciepent as well as who (or what) is being praised.
Materials needed: Varies depending on student interest. Most need construction paper, scissors, glue, etc. Some also used scrap wood or sign manufacturing material.
